PROF PAUL BARDOS

Director, r3 Environmental Technology Ltd & Joint Chair, SuRF-UK Steering Group

Paul Bardos is the managing director of r3 Environmental Technology Ltd with interests in contaminated land and waste management, renewable energy, brownfields and sustainability assessment.  He is the chair of SuRF-UK.  He is also a Visiting Professor at Reading University, and international “GSR” expert for the Ministry of Environmental and Ecology, China, a short term consultant for the World Bank and a Chartered Environmentalist. 

DR DARREN BERIRO

Geoenvironmental Scientist, British Geological Survey

Darren is a geoscientist and NERC Knowledge Exchange Fellow at the British Geological Survey. His work focuses on improving the utility of geoscience in brownfield redevelopment projects and his research interests are human exposure to soil contaminants, predictive modelling of geochemical data and multicriteria analysis of spatial data for decision making.

Prior to BGS, Darren worked for 10 years in environmental consultancy focusing on risk-based land management and environmental assessments for land-use planning. Positions held include Director and Principal Consultant for regional firms in Lincolnshire and Yorkshire.

ANDY LEE

Technical Director - Global Division, RSK Group

Andy Lee is a Technical Director within RSK Global Division and is responsible for the technical direction and management of strategic remediation projects across the Group. Recent highlights including some very interesting projects in Turkey, Tanzania and Iraq. He has over 30 years’ experience gained across a wide range of industrial sectors including oil and gas, waste management, mining and minerals extraction, power, civil engineering and urban development.

 

Andy previously worked for Shell Group (16 years) which led to great international opportunities in CEE, C.& S. America and extensively in Sub Sahara Africa, especially Nigeria, where he was the oil spill response and remediation manager for Shell Nigeria. Andy has subject matter expertise in soil & groundwater risk assessment, remediation specification & design, oil spill response, LNAPL modelling, chlorinated solvents, HSSE due diligence and environmental liability management. 

 

Andy is a Chartered Engineer (IOM3) and Geologist, he has a Degree in Geological Geophysics and Masters in Foundation Engineering.

MIKE SUMMERSGILL

Technical Representative, UK & Ireland, PeroxyChem

Mike is a Chartered Civil Engineer with 45 years of experience in the planning, design & construction
of civil engineering and commercial re-development projects. A Fellow of CIWEM and its 2013/14 President, Mike is also a Specialist in Land Condition (SiLC 003), and for 40 years a Member of ICE,
as well as a long-time Trustee of the CL:AIRE organisation. Since 2017, he has been the (part-time)
UK & Ireland technical representative for PeroxyChem Environmental Solutions.

 

Mike began as a water/drainage engineer for Yorkshire Water, before specialising in geotechnical aspects of construction in the 1980’s, and then moving early into brownfield remediation. Mike’s employment has included periods as Head of Geo-environment for WS Atkins Epsom and General Manager of VHE Technology, before leading RSK GeoConsult’s team in their Kent office, and finally Technical Director at Ecologia Environmental. He co-authored CIRIA C557: ‘Remedial Engineering
for Closed Landfill sites’ in 2001.
