Access 18: Former Britannia Smelting Works, Owner & Client St Modwen Developments Ltd.

Shortlisted Brownfield Awards Category 8 - Best Urban Regeneration and Category 13 - Project of the Year

The Access 18 development is a regionally important urban regeneration project, led by St. Modwen Developments Ltd with Rodgers Leask as the lead engineer. The site comprises the former Britannia Zinc Smelting Works and covers an area of 212 hectares. There is a historical legacy of heavy industry on the site, dating back over a century. The Access 18 development has created more than 2000 jobs with 19 employers and several thousand further opportunities to come as the phased development progresses. The multidisciplinary team formed by St. Modwen comprises Roberts Limbrick (Architects), Turley (Planning Consultants) and Rodgers Leask (Engineering Consultants).

Rodgers Leask are pleased to support the Brownfield Briefing Awards during the difficult year of 2020. We are proud to have been shortlisted for both Category 8 - Best Urban Regeneration and Category 13 – Project of the Year. RLE has submitted many entries in past years and has been awarded the following:

Land Regeneration – As shown by our successful project awards we use our geo-environmental engineering skills to undertake the role of Client’s Engineer for large and small brownfield regeneration projects comprising demolition, remediation, earthworks and validation of the development platform.   


Structural Engineering

 

By overcoming complex challenges in engineering projects we deliver high quality bespoke integrated solutions which save time and save money. Our buildings are sustainable, practical and transform the built environment.

 

From structural engineering design and detail of new buildings and sub-structure elements including specialist foundations, retaining walls and basements to refurbishment and extension of existing structures and design and integration of secondary elements such as internal staircases or balconies we’re experts in the range of services we provide.

 

We develop demolition strategies and specifications, refurbishment and reinstatement design and structural condition surveys and undertake forensic engineering services and BIM collaboration. We also offer design of specialist structures such as manufacturing and industrial process structures to extreme load conditions and seismic qualification as well as party wall design advice.

 

Infrastructure Engineering

 

With a strong civil engineering background and vast experience in the design of highways and infrastructure, cost-effective technical design solutions are delivered to meet the challenges and requirements of infrastructure, development and regeneration projects.

 

From pre-acquisition advice on drainage options, through Flood Risk Assessment and Drainage Strategy reporting to support planning applications, to detailed highways and drainage infrastructure design, our engineers develop effective working relationships with Clients, Planning Consultants and regulatory authorities.
